Kleine Reise (Little Voyage), 2009

Two-piece open air sculpture, steel, polyester, painted polyester laminate, approx. 6,30 x 3,10 m, Federal Ministry of Health, Bonn

The two-piece sculpture ensemble „Kleine Reise“ blends into the entrance area of the ministry. On the left side of the hall a six meters tall organic sculpture towers both floors. A few meters to the right a amorphous cellular object floats underneath the ceiling. It seem to have detatched itself from the total structure. The project is based on a still of the science fiction film „Fantastic Voyage“, whose organic motives were reconstructed and enlarged correnspondingly using a 3D-method. In the film a microscopically shrunk medical crew travels through the bloodstream of a sick politician, in order to safe him.

The sculpture resembles a cardiac muscle fiber and the small cellular objects blood cells. However the installation´s size turns over relations of an human organ and the real architecture of the ministry, regarding the perspective of the meaning: The pulse of the organic life suddenly appears oversized in the foyer and points to the centre of the human existence.
